HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY JUNIOR PREMIER HOCKEY!
The 9th Annual Junior Premier Outdoor League (JPOL) came to a close on Sunday, June 12th and it is with such a relief that we were able to overcome a few challenges in organizing and running this event during this new normal Covid-19 environment.
New this year was our U19 JPOL Elite which was created to showcase some of the top youth Clubs while playing in a format mirroring that of NCAA / FIH Hockey. All games were played at a university complex, on water-based turf, with time stoppage for every goal, short corner, injury, etc. The goal was to make everyone more familiar with the NCAA format thus creating an easier transition to the next level.
Over the course of the spring season the benefits of participation can be attested by those who were present at games being held across all regions. The improvements in the quality of games from the first weekend in April to the various Championships are commendable and reflects the commitment of the players, parents, coaches, umpires, technical staff and many others.
At this time, let us recognize and celebrate all the victors and show our appreciation to all participants, supporters, volunteers and sponsors.
The continued success of this League would not be possible without the support of many who tirelessly give of their time and experience. Much appreciation to the Club Directors, Coaches and their membership who join us each spring to make this league possible. Many thanks to the Umpire Managers (UMs), Technical Delegates (TDs) and their staff of dedicated Technical Officers (TO) and Umpires. You all give so much of you time and talent to be part of this event and its continued successes.
Special thanks and appreciation to the parent Judges from each Club who stepped up each week to give a helping hand at the Technical Table, making sure that the results, game clock and statistics are correct. We thank you for your service!
To our dedicated JPH Directors, Lurah Hess, Kim Scott, Rachael Bloemker and Nigel Traverso, for the countless hours of dedication behind the scenes that allow JPH to achieve and celebrate ten successful years of event planning and organization. Thank you all for continuing to Grow The Game!
A shout out to those Collegiate Coaches who took the time to attend the numerous competitions in each region and to show their continued support. It is always a pleasure to have you all and hope you will continue to attend and recruit at our JPH events. We believe that this is a perfect arena for recruiting at just a short drive away.
Much appreciation to the private institutions for granting us access and use of your facilities year after year. We hope to continue developing great working and supportive relationships and that you continue to make your facilities affordable and accessible to us.
Special recognition to our major sponsors Rothman Orthopedics, Savage Field Hockey – Official Ball Supplier, and Harrow Sports USA – Official Individual Awards Sponsor. Thank you all for your continued support!
To USA FH and Staff who we worked closely throughout the year, we appreciate the continued support shown in working together for the good of the sport and your membership. We thank you and look forward to continuing to build and strengthen our relationship as a Sanctioned event, that benefits the membership and at the same time helping to Growing the Game by providing opportunities for Players, Coaches, Umpires, Umpire Managers and Technical Officials.
And now we recognize and congratulate the 2022 Champions and Special Award recipients from each of the participating Regions, Elite and U14 combined, for an outstanding performance.

Happy 10th Anniversary Junior Premier Hockey – Continue To Grow The Game!
Over 120 Teams representing 70+ Clubs will celebrate Junior Premier Hockey 10th Anniversary by participating in three age divisions (U-14, U-16, U-19) and the newly formed U19 Elite, representing five regions as they get ready to kick off the 2022 Annual JPOL on Saturday, April 9.
Since 2013, the Junior Premier Outdoor League (JPOL) has been run under the umbrella of Junior Premier Hockey (JPH). Its creators, Nigel Traverso and Rachael Bloemker, whose vision and objective is to organize and run a competitive outdoor league in each region across the United States, whereby youth clubs and their membership have the opportunity to compete against each other on a regular basis and continue to Grow the Game.
This year JPH celebrates its 10th Anniversary with the launching of a new and exciting event called JPOL Elite.
The inaugural JPOL Elite kicks off on Saturday, April 9 at the Proving Grounds, PA. This event was created out of discussion with various clubs as to their need to play more often on water base turf regardless of the travel constraints and looking ahead to an easy transition to the NCAA format of play as their membership get ready for the next stage in their hockey career. The JPOL Elite is a U19 event and participation is by invitation only. Each year, four spots become available and all JPOL participating Clubs have the opportunity to earn one of those prestigious and well sought-after invitations, based on performance in their respective Regions.
JPH continues to work with clubs in all regions interested in participating in their leagues.
Each region’s JPOL league is played annually during the Spring, starting in April and ending with the Championships held no later than the second weekend in June. Participation is open to all USA FH member youth clubs and all are encouraged to participate in any of the three age divisions offered (U-14, U-16 and U19). JPH also continued to offer playing opportunities to our northern neighbors in Canada.
With tremendous interest and support, JPH will continue to host a U14 combined league that brings together clubs from Regions 3 through 7 to compete over six competition dates. Region 8 continues to support its own U14 Division, competing over three full weekends at River City, Richmond, VA, George Mason University, VA and a Championship weekend that will be held at the Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach on June 4 & 5.

JPOL is a USA Field Hockey Sanctioned Event. Participation in JPOL provides athletes and coaches with an organized level of competition on a regular basis, that helps prepare them and their Club for success at RCC, NCC, National Hockey Festival and other domestic competition.
In order to continue to Grow the Game, a key component that is often overlooked are the Officials. JPH events (JPOL & JPIL) are staffed with tournament officials (Umpires, Technical Officials and Site Coordinators) recruited from each region, who are sometimes entering hockey for their first time in a role other than an athlete or spectator. All JPH tournaments officials are developed and supported by highly experienced officials so they too can become key players in growing the game.
JPH continues its search for a Title Sponsor for this Junior Premier Outdoor League (JPOL), as well, as the Junior Premier Indoor League (JPIL), and hoping that some generous individual or company will come forward and support one or both of these great youth programs.
A special Thanks to our Sponsors, Mercian Sports, the Official Ball supplier; and Harrows Sport the Individual Awards supplier. Please make sure to thank these Sponsors and support them for all your Field Hockey needs.
Information on Sponsorship and support can be found at: https://www.juniorpremierhockey.com/sponsors/about-jph-sponsorship/.
We invite you to join us and hope to see you at one or many of the regions.
Good Luck to all participants!
