The Junior Premier Outdoor League (JPOL) runs under the umbrella of Junior Premier Hockey (JPH) that was created by Nigel Traverso and Rachael Bloemker Milne in 2011. Its objective is to run organized, competitive outdoor leagues in each region whereby the top youth clubs and their membership have the opportunity to compete against each other on a regular basis.
JPH is very much aware that each region has different scheduling problems and conflicts with Spring Sports, Futures, RCC and starting this year, College Showcases.
“The Junior Outdoor Premier League (JOPL) is one of the top junior leagues in the country and promotes a high level of competition throughout the spring,” said Shawn Hindy, Chair, USA Field Hockey Board of Directors. “Each weekend of games you can find some of the best junior hockey players, umpires, and coaches working together and improving their field hockey. It is also great to watch as a college coach, fan, and lover of the great sport of field hockey. Hope to see you there! ”
As we continue to spread our wings and expand, we continue to welcome requests from other regions to bring the JPOL model to their neighborhood. This year we received a request from Clubs in Region 9 & 10, and after much review and discussions, we have decided to add this region to our programing.

JPOL is a USA Field Hockey Sanctioned Event. Participation in JPOL will provide athletes and coaches with a high level of competition on a regular basis that will prepare them and their club for success at RCC, NCC, Hockey Festival, as well as any and all domestic and international competitions.
“We are thrilled the Junior Premier Outdoor League has grown substantially over the past year,” said Steve Locke, USA Field Hockey Executive Director. “This league, the brainchild of Olympian Nigel Traverso and Rachael Milne, illustrates how the sport will evolve over the next several years as more leagues become more and more prevalent throughout the nation. This is truly what our sport needs to continue to grow the game in the United States. High school aged athlete will have the opportunity to better themselves and better the game with excellent competition expected throughout this league and others that will soon develop using JPH’s prototype.”
Should your club be interested in participating in the JPOL in the future or needs additional information about this year’s event, you can search here on our website or contact Rachael Milne or Nigel Traverso.
We invite you to join us and hope to see you at one or many of the regions.
Good Luck to all participants and clubs!
