The final round of pool play concluded yesterday and the Clubs that will be competing in the Championship games have been decided.
In this Round Robin format where everyone plays each other, and after four days of competitive hockey by some of the best Indoor playing Clubs and players in the country, the top four clubs have been decided in each of the two Divisions.
In the U-16 Division, we witnessed 503 goals being scored in a total of 66 Pool games. The top Goal Scorer with thirty seven (37) goals is Jessica Valvano of SPark. Nineteen of her goals came from penalty corners and eighteen from the field of play. She was followed in a distant second by Erin Shanahan of The Gaels FHC with twenty three (23) and Brittany Dickinson of Xcalibur FHC with twenty two (22) goals each.
In the U-19 divisions we saw a drop in the goal tally from last year which can only be a testament to the increase level of competition. This year there were a total of 552 goals scored. The top Goal Scorer with twenty six Penalty Corners and nine field goals for a total of thirty five (35) points is Marissa Balleza of SPark. Trailing in the distance is Gabrielle Major and Alyssa Chillano of Xcalibur FHC with twenty-four (24) and twenty (20) points respectively.
This Saturday, February 23, all Clubs will play to decide their final ranking. After the end of pool play yesterday, Clubs were ranked 1 thru 12 and will be separated in three groupings for Saturday’s games. Those ranked 1 thru 4 will play for the Championship and those ranked 9 – 12 will play to avoid the Cellar.
The clubs that will be playing for the 2013 Princess Junior Premier Indoor Challenge Trophies are, Xcalibur FHC, Jersey Intensity FH, Spirit Eagles FHC and SPark in the U-19 Division, and Xcalibur FHC, The Gaels FHC, East Coast FH and High Styx FH in the U-16 Division. The remaining Clubs will be playing for their final ranking position. All Clubs will play two games.
The first game starts at 7:00 AM with the Championship at 2:30 PM and 4:10 PM on Saturday, February 23.
Final Ranking is very important because it could be the deciding factor in the clubs receiving an invitation to return next year and compete in the 2014 Junior Premier Indoor League. The top four teams playing for the Championship in each Division will receive an invitation to participate in 2014.
