At the conclusion of round three and with twelve (12) U-19 and thirty two (32) U-16 pool games left to be played, we have witnessed over seven hundred and fifty (750) goals. This is over one hundred more goals at this same stage last year and can only be attributed to the new Hockey 5’s format.
The Leading Goal Scorers in each Division are Erin Shanahan (U-19) and Margot Lawn (U-16), both from The Gaels FHC. Erin leads the way with thirty seven (37) points and Margot with fourteen (14). Erin continues to prove that she is one of the top goal scorers in the league just as she was at the U-16 level last year. With a few more games left, it will be very difficult to move her from that top spot.
Two points separate the top four teams in the U-19 Divisions. Xcalibur FHC is leading with twenty two (22) points, followed by Mystx United with twenty one (21) and both High Styx FH and FC United with twenty (20) points. The last U-19 pool games will be played on February 17 with each Club having just two remaining. Although the bottom four positions appear to be set, the top four spots are still up for grabs and will be keenly contested.
The top of the Leader board in the U-16 division you will find FC United and Xcalibur FHC, both with sixteen points (16). High Styx FH is in third place with fourteen (14) and both Jersey Intensity FH and Mystx United follow with twelve (12) a piece. The U-16 division resumes play this Saturday at the 422 Sportsplex and by end of day we may have a clearer picture.
The next two competition dates promise to be an exciting conclusion to pool play (February 1 & 17), as we look forward to see which club will be ranked in the top four and compete for the Championship on February 22.
Not only do we have a race to see which Club will be seeded 1st and which will be seeded 12th, we will also be watching and counting goals to see who will be awarded the Princess Top Goal Scorer Award in both divisions.
Not to be over shadowed by their older counterparts, the U-14 Division that is running concurrently at the Marple Sports Arena is also shaping up for a very exciting finish. On Sunday, February 2, the Championship round starts with the top eight Clubs playing against each other in a one pool, round robin format. Every game is important, because the 2014 Champions will be crowned from this pool at the end of the round robin on February 17.
What an exciting finish we are expecting on the last two days of pool play on February 1st and 17th as the U16 and U19 Clubs compete for the highest seeding possible. The top four ranked clubs will compete for the Championship while the other Clubs will play for ranking positions 5th thru 12th.
Final Ranking is very important because it could be the deciding factor in a club receiving an invitation to return next year and compete in the 2015 Junior Premier Indoor League or not.
As we move from the Sportsplex in Feasterville to the Sportsplex in Pottstown, come on down and show your support for the league and your favorite Club on the last two days of Pool play and then again on the Championship weekend, February 22nd when the 2014 winners will be presented with the Princess Challenge Trophies in both divisions.
